We were actually pretty early this year. Normally we are definitely post Thanksgiving people and last year Mike didn’t even put up lights. I know. I don’t know why but we just didn’t really have it in us last year. This year with the weather being so warm in November I was determined to convince Mike to put lights up; and convince him we did! Mia had seen a few houses with lights in our neighborhood already and had already been working her magic 😉 I tried to be subtle and hinted how if he did it now the weather was nice and he wouldn’t be all cold while getting it all set up ( which is usually his first complaint) and it worked! He went out one weekend and bought lights and got them up and it looks sooooo pretty! I love driving up on the way home now and seeing those pretty lights as I pull onto the drive.
We also kept our tradition and bought a mini real Fir tree to put up in our foyer window. We have a large fake tree but this gives us some of that real pine smell and looks so cute from outside looking in. We took it a step further this year and I asked Mike if he could get me some pine branches to decorate the house with. He came back with two different kinds (bless him) and I made a makeshift garland that he helped hang around the inside of our front door. That way when our guests come over, they get a burst of fresh pine as they walk in, and I just love how it looks. I may just keep it there post Christmas.
We trimmed the tree and all that jazz post Thanksgiving because Mike put his foot down and said Mia and I were getting all Christmas crazy. Whatevs, we waited and then trimmed to our hearts desire. Mia was really into it this year and especially loved hanging the ornaments she’s made at school over the years. She would ask how old she was with each one and then nod like she remembered and smiled and admired it for a minute before finally hanging it up on the tree. Every. single. one. It was the cutest.
I ordered the kids new stockings this year from Pottery Barn Kids and I am so over the moon with them! Mia’s is a woodland fairy ballerina and Joaquim’s is a car with a Christmas tree and presents. They are so adorable and the quality is amazing. They are a nice size too!
Last year my Mom have me this Santa Claus she had in her house. We had it out at our Christmases growing up and it played a song and he kind of sways from one side to another holding a candle that lights up. Mia and Joa LOVE it. They both stagger up the couch to get to him and giggle away as the watch him move or turn him on or off. I just love when that happens. Something that was special to you becomes special to your child. It is… well for lack of a better word, a special moment.
I already told Mike I have my sights on a new tree for next year. He rolled his eyes, but let’s just see where we end up this time next year 😉
