Pretty much since we got married Mike and I have wanted to have a garden. Mike has the green thumb, I kill almost anything I’ve tried to care for on my own (my snake plant is still surviving… for now) but I love the idea of having fresh fruits, veggies and herbs right in my backyard to cook with! I daydream of the day Mia and I can come home from work/school and go pick things in the garden to cook for dinner.
But a garden is a lot of work, and time is not of plenty around here lately;so we kept putting it off until finally we decided this was the year.
Mike started with some seedlings in the basement then transferred them to pots and eventually outside into the planter boxes that, of course, he made himself. That guy, I tell ya 🙂
Sidenote: not many of the seedlings survived the transplants ( a few did!) So Mike bought some more mature plants to ensure we get a little produce from the season. Also, the herb kit I got from my fanfitfun spring box grew absolutely nothing! Not a sign of growth at all, so husband to the rescue again buying me a small Rosemary, mint, and thyme plant. I’ve used the fresh mint in my water and the rosemary and thyme in my cooking and really enjoy them!
I can’t wait to see how all our little plant friends grow this summer and better yet how they taste! Here are a some pics of the garden as of today :
Tropicana tea rose bloomed just in time for the Holiday weekend!
This Mother’s Day was such a wonderful day!!! The night before, when we had just finished tucking the kids in for the night; Mike took my hand and led me to our backyard where he surprised me with two gorgeous pink rose bushes! One is a double knockout and the other is a tropicana tea rose. They are so beautiful!! We (Mike) planted them on the hill so we can enjoy seeing them from most places in and outside 🙂 I adore roses and pink is my fave color so big points there!
After we played with the kids a bit Mike went for a Starbucks run while I fed the kids breakfast.
Later that morning we all went on the most amazing hike! Cherry blossoms filled the air with the most divine smell, birds were chirping, we even came across three cranes having a snack and got to watch them fly away! Little wild flowers lined our path and we spotted some tadpoles in a creek. We stopped at a park for the kids to play and for a little snack ourselves before finishing up our hike. The sun was shining down on us the whole time, it really couldn’t have been a better day for a hike!
We then headed to Mike’s parents for pizza and more Mother’s day celebrating. We had a great time catching up with family and watching the kids play and run around 🙂 I missed my Mom so much on Mother’s Day but I am so glad she can be in Brazil with her Mama on this special day!
After lunch we headed home and I just soaked up every minute with my chickadees until bed time. There was a stunning out of this world sunset that night which really was the cherry on top of my Mother’s Day Sunday 😉 Hope all the mamas out there had a wonderful Mother’s Day surrounded by those you love 💗
