Brigadeiros ~ Brazilian Chocolate Truffles

If you like chocolate, you will adore brigadeiros. These little truffles are a must at any party in Brazil. From children’s birthdays to wedding showers brigadeiros are pretty much expected. Mike and I even had them as favors at our wedding! They are super easy to make and I even recently discovered you can make them in the microwave! What?! This makes it dangerously easy.

  • 1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • chocolate sprinkles
  • paper truffle cups
  1. Put condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder in a pan and cook at low heat.
  2. Stir constantly, until thick where you can see the bottom of the pan.
  3. Pour into buttered flat plate and let cool.
  4. Scoop 1/2 a teaspoon of the brigadeiro mixture and roll into a truffle ball with your hands . {to prevent chocolate from sticking to your hands make sure it is cool and butter you hands to grease them slightly}
  5. Roll truffle in chocolate sprinkles.
  6. Place truffle in paper cups.

Microwave version

1.Mix condensed milk, butter and cocoa powder in microwave safe bowl.

2. Heat at 80% power in 2 minute intervals for a total of 6 minutes, stirring well each interval.

3. Follow steps 3-6 of regular brigadeiro recipe.

And here are some random shots of them at my kids’ birthday parties, there has not been one birthday sans brigadeiros so far!

And for fun, and because I can’t resist a chance to share pics from our wedding… they were in the little pink boxes on the tables shown in this pic:
