Only a month and 1/2 later but I am finally getting around to posting about Joaquim’s first birthday party!
We had such a wonderful time celebrating out first year with our sweet Joaquim! He has been such a blessing in all of our lives and I CANNOT believe he’s one already!! I. just. cant. Probably why it took me so long to write this post.
We had the party at our house and did an Olympics theme! Not a very “baby” theme I was told by several people…but hey Mike and I liked it! Plus the Olympics are in Brazil this year and, being the good Brazilian that I am I felt we needed to make this the theme. Joa already shows a love of sports so we thought it was a pretty good idea.
My mom made an AMAZING cassoulet for the party. Again not very kiddish but both of the kiddos gobbled it up and Mia even asked for more! Mom- send me the recipe?
We kept it a family affair this year trying to keep it small but still just as special as Mia’s first birthday 🙂 I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again it is so nice that Mike has a large family that all live close by! Thanks to my Mom and Dad for all their help too and for coming from MN to celebrate our Joa!
Liz Mike’s sister made an amazing banana applesauce cake with little fondant flags and everything, it was perfect 🙂 I took to pinterest and made little dumbells out of cookies, gummy life savers and pretzels and Olympic torches out of icecream cones and popcorn. We also made a punch Mike kept trying to convince me to call “Zeus Juice” but I thought that sounded weirdly inappropriate. Maybe I just have a dirty mind but my instant reaction was ummm no. I also made Joa a “ONE” tee with some iron on burlap letters from Hobby Lobby as well as a laurel leaf crown, but again if it aint a fedora he aint interested so I wore it for most of the party 🙂
Mia was a bit confused as I suspected she would be when it came time to open presents. She kept asking if the next one was for her, and did not grasp the the whole day was about her brother and not her. Oh girl, I can relate. # eldestchildproblems
Joa was more into the packaging than the actual presents of course. His fave right away was the cutest mini fedora hat Mike’s second cousin GiGi got him. He looks soooo adorable in it! Like a little Frank Sinatra. So much so every time he puts it on my Dad starts singing some Frank lol But seriously he adores that thing, still to this day. Loves it. Which is so funny because he HATES putting on a winter hat. But a fedora? No prob Mom! He even get’s upset when it falls off his head when he bends down or can’t get it on by himself. Too cute!
Overall it was an amazing day celebrating out little gentleman and I hope he enjoyed it as much as we did!
Love you to the moon and back Joaquim!
