Last weekend we headed to Madison to see our dear friends Megan and Bryan get married. They are such a great couple and I know they will be lifelong friends. I am excited to be there for each other through our next milestones in life. Careers, future children and houses; it is exciting to have another couple with similar values going through the same things.
The weekend started off with the Rehearsal Dinner at The Great Dane in Downtown Madison. They brew their own beer there so Mike and the other boys had a great time sampling a few different kinds. I even tried one and liked it! For those of you who don’t know; I am NOT a beer drinker. We brought Lola on the trip with us so we left early to feed her and let her out before checking into the hotel. Megan and Bryan booked pet friendly hotels which was a big plus for us because we didn’t want to be without Lo for the whole weekend!
There couldn’t have been a more beautiful fall day the next day! It was perfect for a barn wedding. We left the hotel early in the afternoon to meet the rest of the wedding party ( Mike was a groomsmen) at the barn. While we were waiting for the rest of the party to arrive we checked out the cows that were in a lot right next to the barn. When I was posing for the picture below a cow licked my dress!
The entire wedding was beautiful, genuine, down to earth, and classic country. The bride wore cowboy boots under her dress. The guests had mason jars for cups and ate pulled pork sandwiches, grilled potatoes, and rissoto for dinner. They served a yummy apple pie and the Groom’s Mom’s famous brownies for dessert. I want that brownie recipe! I hear she doesn’t give it out to anyone though 😦 They had a live country band play for the first half of the reception and they were really good! Megan sang Bryan a song and I totally lost it, I am a total “sensatron” as Mike likes to call it. Later at night they had a big bonfire and we brought Lola out to socialize with everyone. It was great to see so many friends at once!
Sunday we headed back to Milwaukee making a stop in Pewaukee to watch the Packer game with our friends Pat, Jamie and Jake and their daughter Jillian and Jaidyn. Jamie made us a feast of food and we caught up on life, and of course watched the Packers beat the Carolina Panthers!
The whole weekend made me get in the autumn mood. I am excited for candy corn, big comfy sweatshirts, apple orchards, baking with my new kitchenaid, soups and stews…..I may have to dedicate a whole entry to things I love about fall, but for now I’ll just day Happy Fall Y’all!!
We had quite the social calender this weekend starting with Friday night dinner. Our friends Charlie and Becca came over and the girls chatted while the boys cooked up some delicious food. I always look forward to dinners with these two not only because they are such a fun couple; but also because Charlie is such a great cook. Mike loves to whip up scrumptious meals too so when the two of them get together in the kitchen, we know its going to be a feast of food. This dinner was no different with grilled garlic California chicken, marinated grilled shrimp, fresh sweet corn, and sauteed zuchinni and squash. We finished the night off with pieces of chocolate and black forest cake. Sorry for the lack of pictures, I was having such a good time I forgot to get my camera out!
Saturday we went to Oconomowoc to visit our friend Sarah who was babysitting her nephew Daniel. It was so fun to see the two little ones interact! Later we headed back to Tosa and relaxed for a bit before getting ready to head down to Tosa Fest. Mike and I were volunteering for the 2nd year in a row as bartenders with our friend Meighan. This time I invited my friend Britanny from work as well. We had such a good time and may have made a possible love connection for my friend as well!
Sunday was a catch up day. I spent the day cleaning the house, doing laundry, and running errands. I finally got to some things that had been sitting around since the move. It feels good to get closer to being done with moving in.
While taking a break from cleaning I began perusing some of my favorite blogs; I found myself focusing on each blogs vacation entries and then daydreaming about our next vacation. I know you all are thinking “Didn’t you JUST go on your honeymoon?!” but I have always been a traveler and have a great love for it. There are so many places I want to see still and cannot wait to explore.
On the of my list for possible travels of 2012:
1) Main and New York- Two places we both really want to go to; neither of us have been to Maine, Mike has never been to New York.
2) Thinking bigger- Paris- This one I haven’t shared with Mike yet, but being the history buff that he his I doubt it would take much convincing 🙂 I have always dreamed of going to Paris! Taking three years of French in high school didn’t help the matter either. The little cafes, the fashion, the beautful scenery, the art, the history, what isn’t there to love! It would take a lot of planning and saving but Paris in the spring would be so amazing! If not 2012 then hopefully 2013 🙂
I haven’t blogged in a while and I figured now that we’re married, we should really have one tracking all the exciting news that’s gone on all summer long and what is to come now that we’ve settled down in our new/old home city of Wauwatosa! We are already missing some of our East Side fav spots like the Lake Front Bluffs off Bradford Ave, and Ian’s Pizza; but we aren’t arguing with these crime free /drunk noise free streets and friendly neighbors (including my inlaws!) ! A lot has happened these past two months, between Bruna getting hired at Kohl’s Corporate as a Merchandise Specialist, Mike getting asked back to teach at CESA, getting married, honeymooning, moving cross town, moving into our first (rented) house together, getting an Australian Shepherd puppy, and my close friend Kelsey getting engaged! My hope is to recount all these exciting events here, on our first blog together as a married couple; MZB
